Environment

At Castle Colour we avoid the use of hazardous materials, minimise the waste going to landfill sites and ensure that this message is understood throughout the company. We recognise that we have a responsibility to the environment and future generations, to improve our environmental performance at every stage of our manufacturing process. We take positive steps to minimise waste, effluent, emissions and maximise the use of scarce natural resources. We also communicate to our team the benefits in ‘bottom line’ performance this can have by reducing energy costs, carbon emissions and other environmental issues.

Environmental measures currently adopted include:

  • Achieving environmental accreditation to ISO 14001;
  • Removal of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) from our processes;
  • Removal of alcohol from our printing processes;
  • Removal of chemicals from our plate processing systems;
  • Minimising the use of solvent coatings by substitution of water-based coatings, wherever possible;
  • Sourcing board from accredited suppliers and using only recycled or recyclable stocks from sustainable sources.
  • All board material is manufactured to minimum viable acidity levels, with minimal chlorine elements.
  • In 2008 we secured funding from The Carbon Trust to install an evaporative cooling system which does not generate greenhouse gases. This system regulates temperature and humidity throughout our factory.

Decommissioning and disposal of company assets is monitored and managed in an environmentally responsible way.
